Media Services
Mentoring Program
Library media specialists serving their first year in an AACPS
school are eligible for participation in the Library Media mentoring program.
Beginning in August, new library media specialists are invited to attend the
AACPS New Teacher Orientation. Each library media specialist is assigned a
mentor and attends a series of 4 staff development days. Each of the sessions
features a classroom observation of a school library media lesson and
informational sessions on the various facets of the role of a school library
media specialist. Substitutes are provided for these days.
Library media specialists may volunteer to be a mentor. Participation as a
mentor is a rewarding experience for both the new library media specialist and
the mentor as they share their experiences and grow professionally together as
