National Professional Organizations:
American
Library Association: The American
Library Association is the oldest and
largest library association in the world,
with more than 65,000 members. Its mission
is to promote the highest quality library
and information services and public access
to information. The annual conference is
held in early summer. A mid-winter
conference is held in January each year.
American Association of
School Librarians:
AASL is the national association for school
librarians. Conferences are held every other
year with a fall institute in the
alternating year.
ISTE:
The International Society for Technology in
Education (ISTE) is the trusted source for
professional development, knowledge
generation, advocacy, and leadership for
innovation. A nonprofit membership
organization, ISTE provides leadership and
service to improve teaching, learning, and
school leadership by advancing the effective
use of technology in PK–12 and teacher
education.
Maryland Professional Organizations:
Maryland Association of
School Librarians:
MASL is the state organization for school
librarians. They offer an annual
conference, the Black-Eyed Susan Reading
Incentive Program and other professional
growth opportunities. MASL is affiliated
with the American Library Association.
Maryland Library
Association:
MLA represents all
librarians: public, academic, special, and
school. They offer a special membership rate
for to members of MASL, the Maryland
Association of School Librarians. MLA is
affiliated with the American Library
Association.
MICCA
is the state organization for educators in
the field of technology. It is an affiliate
of the national organization, ISTE. In
addition to workshops offered throughout the
year, a 3 day conference is held in the
spring each year.

Educational Media
Association of Anne Arundel County:
EMAAAC, is the local professional
organization. They offer a “Back to School”
picnic, a fall and spring general meeting,
and a May banquet where they present an
award to an outstanding AACPS administrator.
